Choosing a Cruise from Malaysia: 7 Ships Compared
Golden Tropics Travel · Updated

Malaysians can now choose from short weekend getaways out of Port Klang to week-long sailings to Japan. The right ship depends on where you want to board, how many nights you have and who is travelling with you. Here is how the seven ships we sell compare.
Port Klang, Singapore or a fly-cruise?
Sailing from Port Klang means no flight or border crossing: drive or take a transfer from the Klang Valley and board the same day. Genting Dream, Star Voyager and Adora Mediterranea all have Port Klang departures.
Singapore's Marina Bay Cruise Centre has the widest choice, including Disney Adventure and Royal Caribbean. Allow time to fly, drive or take the train to Singapore, and plan to arrive the day before for an early check-in.
For Japan, Okinawa, Taiwan and Korea, Spectrum of the Seas sails from Hong Kong and Shanghai. Some fares are sold as a fly-cruise with flights included; check what the fare covers before you compare prices.
The seven ships at a glance
- Genting Dream (Dream Cruises): 1 to 5 nights from Singapore, Port Klang and Melaka, to Melaka, Penang, Phuket or the high seas, including one-way trips between Malaysia and Singapore.
- Star Voyager (Star Cruises): 1 to 4 nights from Port Klang and Singapore, calling at Pulau Pangkor, Penang, Melaka, Phuket and Krabi.
- Adora Mediterranea (Adora Cruises): 3 to 6 nights round trip from Port Klang to Penang, Langkawi and Phuket, plus one-way sailings to and from southern China.
- Disney Adventure (Disney Cruise Line): 3 and 4 nights from Singapore, mostly days at sea, with some sailings calling at Langkawi.
- Navigator of the Seas (Royal Caribbean): 2 to 13 nights from Singapore to Penang, Phuket, Langkawi, Vietnam and Bangkok, plus a long one-way voyage to and from Japan.
- Quantum of the Seas (Royal Caribbean): 3 to 10 nights from Singapore to Penang, Phuket, Bangkok and Vietnam.
- Spectrum of the Seas (Royal Caribbean): 4 to 11 nights from Hong Kong and Shanghai to Japan, Okinawa, Taiwan and Korea.
Which ship suits you
- First cruise or a weekend away: a 2- or 3-night sailing on Genting Dream or Star Voyager from Port Klang, with no flights to book.
- Families with young children: Disney Adventure for Disney characters and kids' clubs by age, or Genting Dream for its waterslides and kids' club on a shorter, simpler trip.
- Thrills and big-ship activities: Quantum of the Seas and Navigator of the Seas from Singapore, with Royal Caribbean's top-deck attractions and a wide choice of shows and dining.
- More ports in one trip: Adora Mediterranea from Port Klang, or a longer Navigator or Quantum sailing that visits Thailand and Vietnam.
- Japan, Okinawa or Korea: Spectrum of the Seas from Hong Kong or Shanghai, or Navigator's one-way voyage between Singapore and Tokyo.
What the fare includes and what costs extra
Cruise fares cover your cabin, the main restaurants and buffet, most shows and many activities on board. Our fare pages show port and handling charges in the price so you can compare ships fairly.
Expect to pay extra for drinks and speciality dining, Wi-Fi, shore excursions, spa treatments and any charges the cruise line collects on board, such as gratuities. Flights and transfers are only included when the fare says so.
Booking tips
- School holidays and long weekends sell out first, so enquire early for those dates.
- Passports should be valid for at least six months from the day you sail. Sailings from or to Singapore need the SG Arrival Card completed online before arrival.
- Fares are per person and change with the number of guests in a cabin; tell us the ages of any children so we can quote the right price.
- An enquiry does not hold a cabin. We confirm availability and the final price with the cruise line before you pay.
